Soda Firing

Work can be fired in a kiln devoted to Soda Firing. There is much to be learned about surface finishes, firing cycles and methods of adding soda at the peak temperature. I am indebted to the people who take charge of the firing. The firing radically influences the flashing, the distribution and quantity of soda.

I spent 5 years trying to learn the effects of oxides, slips and glazes. Pottery Northwest’s old kiln yard and residents provided much of my learning and experience. Pottery Northwest’s new location does not permit soda firing.
